NIN Application Guidelines and Requirements for Students

We have now outlined below, the simplest procedures available for any student to obtain his/her NIN. As it stands, even the registration for 2021 JAMB's UTME may only be possible for candidates that have not registered and obtained their NINs. The importance of getting your NIN now cannot be overemphasized, as it may lead to the inability of a student to complete certain important tasks in schools or NYSC in the near future, hence the need to obtain it now and relax.

In view of this, we deem it necessary to provide all students, and indeed prospective UTME candidates with the guidelines to register and obtain their NIN before the 2021 UTME registration begins as the registration is expected to commence soon. 2021 UTME Candidates are equally advised to start preparing for their exams using the JAMB CBT softwares and JAMB CBT app

What is NIN?

NIN simply means National Identification Number. It consists of 11 non- intelligible numbers randomly chosen and assigned to an individual after the completion of enrolment into the National Identity Database (NIDB).

Once a NIN is assigned to an individual, it can never be reassigned, given or used by another person – that makes it unique in nature. In the case of the demise of an individual, his/her NIN is retired once a death certificate is presented to the Commission and the individual’s death is established.

The NIN is used to tie all records about an individual in the database and is also used to establish or verify his/her identity. All citizens and legal residents in Nigeria, from age zero (birth) and above are eligible to enrol for their NINs.

First, Check if you already have a NIN

The first step before you proceed to register to get your NIN is to check if you already have one. To know this, with the phone used to register for the NIN, Dial *346# on your phone to retrieve your NIN. Once your NIN is displayed, you can either screenshot it, or note it down somewhere. Please note that you're not to share your NIN information on any social media platform. You can however share it when requested by trusted institutions. Getting your NIN by failing *346# is totally FREE OF CHARGE on all the Nigerian Mobile Networks including MTN, AIRTEL, GLO and 9mobile.

JAMB registers over 1,287,548 candidates for 2021 UTME/DE, registration closes May 29th

JAMB has revealed that over 1,223,962 candidates have been registered in the ongoing 2021 UTME registration while over 63,586 candidates have been registered for the Direct Entry as of May 23rd, 2021. This was contained in the weekly bulletin publication of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) via its official website.

According to JAMB, the registration deadline remains May 29th, 2021. JAMB however did not disclose if the e-PIN vending will end on the same date as the registration.

That notwithstanding, we advise candidates who are still yet to generate their profile codes to still keep trying as from all indications, the e-PIN vending will likely continue and end on the same date as registration unless JAMB officially announces otherwise.

Meanwhile, JAMB has warned parents registering their wards for the 2021 UTME to beware of extortion as it has come to the knowledge of the board that some elite schools are using the name of the Board to extort huge sums of money from parents under the guise of registering for the Board’s processes or that the Board has ordered such payments.

Parents are to note that the cost of the UTME forms (ePINs) remains N3500 and N500 for the reading text and nothing more. Parents are to ensure that their children register for the UTME individually and not as a group. In addition, the CBT centres have been directed not to charge above N700 as their service charge for the registration.
